As head towards the hotel from the Chiang Mai airport, we pass what's left of the old city wall and moat that surround Chiang Mai.
The moat runs around the entire Old City portion of Chiang Mai.
We stayed at the D2 Hotel in Chiang Mai. The hotel is around 8 months old and was recently on the Conde' Naste 2006 "Hot List".
The outside of the hotel.
The lobby area.
Some really funky chairs in the hotel lobby.
Let's go up to the club level.
The hotel has a private reception area on the Club Level floor.
Once you arrive at the D2, you get an iced ginger tea welcome drink.
They also have great drinks.
Each floor has a pedestal outside of the elevator bank.
Each room comes with two flat panel televisions. One in the bedroom area and one in the living area.
Views of the room.
Each room also had a separate living area.
Views of Chiang Mai from the room.
The hotel bar.
Each afternoon, from 5-7PM, there's a free happy hour on the Club Level.
The bar has a more subdued look after dark.
The hotel has cut flowers in every possible nook and cranny in the hotel.
The hotel also has a nice pool area. You get free 5 minute neck massages and cold towels while you're there.
On the top level of the hotel, there's a full size workout room and yoga area on the rooftop. You have 360 degree views of Chiang Mai through floor to ceiling windows.
The Devarana Spa, located on the third floor of the hotel, provides great massages. Prices for an hour start at less than $45.
The Chiang Mai night market is right next to the hotel.

Our class has about a dozen students. Half stay and learn how to carve vegetables and fruit, while we take a trip to the local markets.

It's about 10AM when we arrive at the market and things are kind of slow.
